What to expect during your initial treatment

Establishing Care

Establishing care is more than just booking an appointment, it’s finding and investing in a relationship that feels safe enough to unpack the unhealthy dynamics of our lives. This means getting to know each other, building trust and creating a healing space together. Doing so allows for care to be offered and received in a consistent and ongoing basis through lifes’ challenges, personal and interpersonal changes, as well as through the evolutions and transitions that come our way.

Intention Setting and Your Complete Intake

We will begin by setting an intention for our time together by getting to know and voice your needs. Once your needs are clear we will go through a complete health history and perform a comprehensive assessment. This may take place through a thorough pulse diagnosis (using Contemporary East Asian Pulse Diagnosis) and through other palpatory diagnostic methods. This process gives detailed information regarding the stresses you experience, the condition of your body and the functioning state of your organs.

Acupuncture and Medical Bodywork Treatment

Your treatment will be directed by your intentions, history, stated symptoms, experience and by the findings of your assessment. The modalities and techniques used will be adapted to your specific needs and condition to facilitate healing. Some of the modalities used are Acupuncture, Medical Bodywork, Cupping, Gua Sha (scraping), Moxa and Topical Remedies.

Patients often report having a wide range of treatment experiences. Some of these include: feeling energized, a heightened awareness, reduced sensations of pain, tingling or radiating sensations in the body, having emotional clarity and releases, body tremors, deep relaxation, falling asleep, etc.

Chinese Herbal Therapy and Supplements

If necessary, herbal medicinals can be offered and uniquely prescribed to support the treatment strategy. They are directed to treat the physiological pattern that has given rise to your ailment. Nutritional supplements are also recommended, when necessary, and as an adjunct to dietary and lifestyle recommendations.

Ongoing Care and Treatment Strategy
Within the first few sessions, we will draw out a plan indicating how we can best work together to meet your intentions and reach your health goals. During the initial course of treatment, we will discover how your body responds, adjusting treatment plans as necessary for you to receive the maximum benefit.
